Welcome to Bakwena Lodge, an eco-luxury retreat on the banks of the Chobe River.
Botswana is safari country and Bakwena Lodge is ideally positioned, 1.5kms form the meeting place of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Botswana and surrounded by the Chobe National Park and Forest Reserve.
Bakwena, from Setswana meaning 'people of the crocodile' one of the largest tribes in Botswana; embraces the surrounding culture and country as inspiration for its style and hospitality.
Bakwena Lodge comprises 10 rondavel style chalets, 2 of which are family units, all situated under the shady canopy of Acacia trees. Each site has been selected for its river view and is surrounded by indigenous riverine bush. Built around both ecological and traditional African principles, each chalet offers laid-back luxury with its own raised deck overlooking the river. Built-in daybeds offer ample opportunity to absorb the changing moods of the Chobe River. Each chalet has an interior bathroom opening onto an outside garden with an outside shower (showering under an African night sky surrounded by the sounds of the bush is a must-do experience).
The personal touch of owner-manager's, Adam and Jen, can be felt from the hand selected furniture to the food prepared by the owners and chefs. Expect simple African-fusion dishes prepared from locally sourced ingredients and inspired by traditional Setswana cuisine.
Once you've unwound and settled in at Bakwena Lodge, you may join us in the main entertainment area with its lounge, restaurant and Rain Tree bar overlooking the river, or cool off in our inviting swimming pool.
A sedate cruise along our stretch of river should offer some great birding and you will get to glide across the intersection of four African countries (without passport bureaucracy) – Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe!
