We had a lovely time at Barra Palms – an awesome holiday. We have some positives and some negatives;

On the positives:

We didn’t have water supply issues at all which was great. Power was a daily issue but we knew that is how it goes having been going to Barra over a number of years

Alberto kept the pool and braai areas in pristine condition

The night guard was really diligent and efficient

Alberto is very friendly and helpful with everything we requested from him

On the negatives:

Both houses just seemed to be worse for wear in terms of maintenance

The septic tank was blocked for 5 days out of our 10 days which caused an awful smell. Alberto sorted it out for a few hours each day but it was unpleasant.

The 8 sleeper – the hot water tap in shower upstairs that was broken 2 years ago is still broken. It comes right out of the wall. This year my niece burnt her hand severely when the tap came out the wall and the hot water spurted out.

When we got there, only one fridge was switched on. The rest were off including the box deep freezes. The next day we realised the 6 sleeper box deep freeze wasn’t working at all. Alberto did sort it out for us but I think they should check these things before guests arrive especially with the power outages

The mosquito nets are filthy and they have whole in them. They need to be replaced

There is a general lack of supervision over Alberto and Katarina. Although they did service the two houses each day, it was not thorough and I had to constantly ask them to come back and clean further. Things like the bathroom floors and mats were not swept and hung out. We had to also request the kitchen floor to be cleaned a couple of times.

Because we had both houses, they often didn’t clean the kitchen of the 8 sleeper

Last time we were there 2 years ago the house was cleaned in the morning and the kitchen and then again after lunch, any remaining dishes were washed before the cleaners left. This time that did not happen it was only done once a day.

We took all our own cleaning materials for them to use so I was surprised that there was a general lack of cleanliness and we ended up doing a lot if it ourselves

Both houses are invested with sand flees. We are always prepared for bugs and mosquitoes but this was extensive. Our beds were covered and the floors so we were all bitten badly. I think it would help if the owners fogged or de-infest the houses/mattress’ once a year

Some of our meat was taken out our camper deep freeze. It was on a day that we all went out for a couple hours while the houses were being cleaned. Lose change, games and sunglasses in the same kitchen was not taken. When we got back to take it out to defrost it was gone. It was mince at the bottom of the deep freeze and I think who ever took it thought we would not miss it.

Thank you for all your assistance and we look forward to going to Moz next year again.

For what we paid I thought it was good. There was most of the time a water shortage, but it was mainly due to the drought in that area.

N. van der Watt (April 2016)

We had a great time at Barra Palms

I would suggest maybe to send a check list of what is in the building (like pots, pans, cutlery)

Other than that all was very good.

Thank you so much

Service: Excellent Alberto and Katarina made us feel so welcome when we left they felt like family

Friendliness: Excellent - again Alberto and Katarina always had a smile on their faces and nothing was too much for them

Cleanliness: Excellent - Alberto and Katarina made sure everything was clean and neat

Facilities: Average - I must say for the price we made we thought that there could have been a small generator for the power outages. Also, they might think of putting mosquito gauze In front of the windows

Overall: Good – If it wasnt for the days without power it would have been excellent

We enjoyed every second although we waited 45 minutes for the keys at 02:00 in the morning when we arrived!  We will definitely be back!
