Self-Catering and Camping at the main dive camp in Ponta Malongane from R100 per adult per night

The main dive camp in Ponta Malongane (Complexo Turistico da Ponta Malongane) offers affordable self-catering and camping accommodation. If you are looking for a fun, affordable holiday in Mozambique, this popular resort with its amazing beach, warm waters and wondrous reefs is the place!

Situated a mere 7 hours’ drive from Johannesburg and only 4 hours from Durban, this is one of the premier dive centres in Mozambique and our dive shop offers a full range of diving and snorkelling gear to rent.

The accommodation is varied to suit individual needs, from campsites to chalets - a popular Mozambique holiday choice for family and friends.

Campsites

The 53 beautifully shaded camp sites at this Ponta Resort are spread out along a 1km area of the resort. All sites are within easy walking distance to the beach and to the numerous ablution blocks. The size of each site varies between 6-12 people per site. All the sites have a plug point. Refrigerators/freezers are not provided to our guests in the camp sites, guests are also requested to bring their own braais/grids, tables and chairs.

Dive Camp Tents

25 Dive Camp Tents are situated close to the dive camp and boat launching area. 14 of these two-man dome tents are positioned on wooden decks with shade covers whilst the other 11 are ground tents in the shaded camp area closer to the beach. Each tent has 2 single mattresses and mosquito screened door and windows. Guests occupying these tents will have the use of the Dive Camp self-catering kitchen where fridge/freezer space will be allocated on arrival. The adjacent ablutions have hot water showers and power outlets for hairdryers and shavers. There are no plug points in the tents but these are available at the dive camp for charging laptops, cell phones, camera’s etc.

Rustic Log Huts

The 19 log huts are ideal for scuba divers. They accommodate 2 people per unit and each has 2 single beds. These log huts are positioned at the Dive Camp, just a few metres from the beach. There are no plug points in the huts but guests may charge their appliances and/or equipment at the Dive Camp. Guests staying in the log huts have the use of the Dive Camp self-catering kitchen where fridge/freezer space will be allocated on arrival. The kitchen is equipped with gas cookers, pots and pans and basic cooking utensils. The adjacent ablutions have hot water showers and power outlets for hairdryers and shavers.

No cooking, candles or mosquito burners are permitted inside or on decks of log huts. We also do not provide crockery or cutlery – guests are advised to bring their own. In addition, guests are requested to bring own bedding and linen, beach and bath towels.

Chalets

Parque de Malongane boasts 10 chalets situated close to the beach and restaurant. There are four 4-sleeper chalets, four 5-sleeper chalets and two 6-sleeper chalets with private bathrooms which are serviced daily. The chalets are fully equipped for self-catering with bedding, linen, crockery, cutlery, fridge/freezer, gas cooker, ceiling fans and outdoor braai (barbeque) facilities.

Rondavels

The four 4-sleeper rondavels comprise an open plan kitchen/living area with private bathroom just a few metres from the beach. One of the rondavels has a separate bedroom with a double bed. The rondavels are serviced daily and are equipped with bedding and linen, crockery, cutlery, fridge/freezer, gas cooker, ceiling fans and a portable braai (barbeque).

We really enjoyed the campsite. We had a lovely stay.

We were not sure about the boat and jet ski regulations so we asked the skippers and workers at the dive camp. They were not accommodating and didn't provide us with all the information that we needed to have. They were rude and not helpful at all.

Thanks very much for your help with everything.

J. Prinsloo, April 2017

We have just returned from camping in Malongane and have enjoyed every moment and we had a pleasant stay.  I have to mention that the ladies bathroom had no hot water for the entire week – this was not a hassle for me but I feel that mothers that have to bath small children found it rather difficult.

As an annual visitor to Malongane, I would like to say that the resort is looking somewhat "tired", and a revamp of the bathrooms, power points and walkways is needed. Otherwise I had a most enjoyable time and the camping facilities there are adequate if not just right to cater for basic camping needs.

Thank you once again for your great service.
