GUEST REVIEWS FOR PALM GROVE LODGE IN BARRA, MOZAMBIQUE

Friendliness: Average

Cleanliness:  Bad

Facilities: Average

Overall:    Average

Although we always enjoy our stay at Palm Grove, there are a few complaints.  Unit we stayed in; kitchen cupboards not closing properly, kitchen tap loose, bathroom basin leaks, aircon leaks a lot of water inside room/not working, no fans (we had to ask).  Cutlery/crockery VERY dirty, mismatched and not enough.  No live entertainment at the pool this year, no hype/build-up to New Year.  Bar and restaurant service very slow.

We had a great time at Palm Grove.  Only complaint would be the cleanliness of the cutlery/crockery, no toaster, bathroom doors not closing properly.

Thanks so much for arranging the booking

The lodge was great in many ways, great location and the owner Adam was very helpful. The downfall was the maintenance of the pool. As you know we specifically wanted a pool at the accom and the pool was filthy and very, very, very badly maintained, to the point that it became unusable

The cleaner was very sweet and trustworthy

The lodge should have offered more info on activities in the area and recommendations of who to use, they really lacked in this area

It was a really great holiday

Y. Waisberg (January 2016)

From all of us, we would like to thank you for organising one of the best holidays we have been on. What we were most impressed with, was the way that you found us a resort that was perfectly suited to our requirements. We all know that no resort can suit all types of people. This is why it is important to have someone like you find one that is best suited to the individual, and you did a stellar job! When booking for my next holiday, you will definitely be the first person we call and we will make sure to pass your details on to as many people as possible.

Regarding Palm Grove Lodge, we were impressed with the fact that you managed to secure us a chalet right on the beach, even though we booked late. Others who did not book through you were put up next to the dive centre, where they were woken up at 5am to the sound of the boats coming in and the smell of the rubbish dump behind them. We were extremely happy with our chalet and especially our position (number 6, 7 and 8 are by far the best in my opinion).

Service was great, and we would like to say a special thanks to Vincent, a barman who went out of his way to accommodate us in every aspect. One of the days we had run out of firewood and Vincent caught a taxi into town to fetch us some, even though he was not required to and was off duty. All of the staff was friendly at all times.

The chalets were perfect for us. Although they are not 5 star luxury, they had everything we could need. The beds were comfortable and the water and electricity was fairly constant. I can imagine that older couples and guests wanting a bit more luxury would not enjoy the chalets, but they were perfect for us and we wouldn't hesitate going there again. The size of the place was good and had all the necessary pots etc.  We especially enjoyed the leniency of music being played etc. Although nobody went absolutely mad into the early hours, it did have a very chilled, youthful and friendly vibe.

Cleanliness was also a great surprise. We had a maid come in twice a day to tidy up after us. There was a safe provided but we hardly used it as she seemed totally trustworthy. One of the days i had left some coins on the floor. After she had cleaned up, the room was spotless and the coins were in their exact spots.

Facilities were great. We hired quads, went kayaking most days and deep sea fishing and we were happy with all of them and especially the price. It’s not anywhere that you can rent a kayak for the day and go snorkelling for hours for around R100!

The only thing i think the staff can improve on it at the restaurant. Waiting times were sometimes erratic. Some days i would order a burger and it would be out in 2 minutes but other day i would wait for over an hour for a cup of coffee. I also noticed that this had nothing to do with how many people were in the bar. Sometimes we would be the only people and it would still take over an hour to get food. In their defence, we did complain the one day and we received our meal and drinks for free.

Thanks again, and I'll be in contact with you for our next holiday!
