Kosi Bay Lodge is located in the far North Eastern corner of KwaZulu-Natal near the small village of Manguzi and 20km from Ponta do Ouro in Mozambique. Ideally situated for travellers who wish to explore this pristine region or as a stopover when returning from Mozambique. The lodge offers chalets, safari tents and lodge rooms on a self-catering, full board or bed & Breakfast basis.

Kosi Bay Lodge is perfectly situated for guests who want to base themselves in the heart of this pristine area and further explore the region. The lodge is just a few hundred meters from the water’s edge of Lake Nhlange (the 3rd and largest lake located within the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park.

Accommodation is provided in a choice of self-catering chalets, lodge rooms or safari tents on wooden decking. Rates offer full board, bed & breakfast or self-catering options

The self-catering chalets comprise two, four and six bedded wooden units with thatched roofs. The accommodation is rustic more than plush but the setting and range of activities make a stay well worthwhile. All chalets have fully equipped kitchens and braai or boma areas. A number of chalets have private plunge pools.

The six safari tents on decking each have 2 single beds and an en-suite bathroom. There is a communal kitchen and boma area which guests can enjoy as well as a refreshing plunge pool.

There are also three double rooms and 2 family rooms. The double rooms have an extra single bed and all have en-suite bathrooms.

Sip sundowners in Nhlange Pub with an amazing view over the shimmering lake and enjoy cuisine with a distinctive local flavour in the cosy atmosphere of the Umdoni restaurant overlooking the pool and the sun deck.

Excursions/attractions which include turtle tracking, boat trips, snorkelling, game drives etc. can be arranged from the Lodge.

Boat Trips - Explore the 3 Lakes by boat to see Hippos and Bird life of Kosi Bay. Pack a picnic basket and enjoy the crystal-clear waters at the first lake.

Kosi Bay Mouth – This pristine estuarine system offers fantastic snorkelling, rock & surf fishing, fly-fishing, walking and bird watching opportunities.

Self-drive – A 4x4 vehicle is essential and entry permits are required from the KZN Wildlife office located nearby the Lodge.

Guided excursion – Join our qualified tour guide and share his intimate knowledge of the area.

Black Rock – Prime rock & surf fishing destination, snorkelling in the shallow bay or walking on deserted beaches.      

Tembe Elephant Park – A sanctuary for elephants was established in the early 1980’s on community owed land. Today the park is home to the “Big 5”. Spend relaxing hours at a hide overlooking the waterhole or travel the sandy tracks in search of the elusive lions.

Ndumo Game Reserve - A sanctuary for wildlife where South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland join.  It is a bird watchers paradise with over 350 species recorded and the rarely seen Pals Fishing Owl one of the main species on the “tick list”

Ponta do Ouro Day Trip - Bring your passports to enjoy a fulfilled day in Ponta, Mozambique which is only 20 km away from the Lodge.

Turtle Encounters – During November to February loggerhead and leatherback turtles labour up on to the beach during the night at the same place that they were born to lay their eggs and ensure the survival of the next generation. This spectacular event can be witnessed first-hand under the guidance of a local turtle guide.

Trogon Walking Trail – Self-guided walking trails surround the edges of 3rd Lake (Lake Nhlange) and crisscross through the Nswamanzi Forest. This dense sand forest is home to many bird species such as Nerina Trogon, Crested Hornbill, Brown Hooded Kingfisher and for the a select few the rare Palm Nut Vulture.

Banga Nek – Offers unspoilt deserted beaches, excellent rock & surf fishing, bird watching or just sunbathing in this pristine environment. Self-drive-own boat, - 20min by boat or 4x4 Drive with own vehicle (approximately 1.5 hours). Boat transfer provided by Kosi Bay Lodge

Access to the Lodge – the road is tar until the last 3kms, most of which is graded dirt/sand. The turn off to the Lodge is a well-used sand track which is accessible to a normal saloon car. There after you need a 4 by 4 to travel around.

Fishing on the lakes can only be done by boat. At the Mouth fishing is only allowed in the sea and not the lake.

Self-drive guests will require a permit to enter the Coastal Forest Reserve when journeying to the Mouth, Black Rock and, to Tembe Elephant Park (by road) Permits are available from The KwaZulu Department of Nature Conservation’s Tourist office which is just 2kms away.
