Lake St. Lucia Lodge in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park is a slice of paradise home to vast and diverse bird and wildlife, a haven surrounded by lakes, islands, wetlands, coral reefs and breath-taking beaches.

An unforgettable experience awaits, from taking a leisurely stroll to the nearby pub and "bumping" into a hippo on-route, to observing leatherback turtles nesting on the shoreline or taking part in a boat safari on the St. Lucia Estuary. Swimming in the lake is prohibited due to the presence of crocodiles, however you can dive on coral reefs, explore the beach dunes, or stroll through dense coastal forests.

Self-Catering accommodation at Lake St. Lucia Lodge is provided in 3 comfortable self-catering units. Each has a private braai area and parking next to each unit. The units do not have a TV or lounge area.

The 2 sleeper self-catering bungalow comprises a bathroom with shower and a fully equipped kitchenette.

The 4 sleeper garden cottages are both self-catering units but have slightly different layouts and features. Cottage 1 has 2 x twin beds and a bunk bed with a partition between, bathroom (with shower) and kitchenette. Cottage 3 has an open plan layout with 1 x double bed and 1 x bunk bed, bathroom (with bath) and kitchenette.

The local village lined with shops and pubs is a just a minute away and for those who prefer to spend their days on the water, chat to your host Andre, who is a renowned fisherman and who can provide expert advice on the numerous fishing ventures including deep sea, rock and surf fishing!

ACTIVITIES ON SITE OR WITHIN CLOSE PROXIMITY

Half Day Game Drive

Pick up at 05h00 (winter) 04h00 (summer) from Lake St Lucia Lodge in an open Game vehicle and enter the Umfolozi Game Park working your way up to Hilltop – Hluhluwe Game reserve. At around 09h00 – 09h30 breakfast is served. Continuing after breakfast driving through the exquisite landscapes viewing the big five along the way.

 

Full Day Game Drive

Pick up at 05h00 (winter) 04h00 (summer) from Lake St Lucia Lodge in an open Game vehicle and enter the Umfolozi Game Park working your way up to Hilltop – Hluhluwe Game reserve. At around 09h00 – 09h30 breakfast is served. Continuing after breakfast driving through the exquisite landscapes viewing the big five along the way. Around 12h00 – 13h00 Guest are allowed to exit the vehicle and unwind with refreshments while your guide prepares and serves lunch. This is truly a memorable outing.

 

Bird Viewing & Walks

Our tour guide has more than 30 years’ experience in the field of birding so you are assured of wonderful sightings of both the common and not so common birds of the area. For the bird lover, this is a must.

 

Cultural Village Tour

Ever increasing number of requests for this truly magnificent tour. This is not your typically touristy tour, but simply a Zulu showing how the Zulu's live in the nearby Khula Zulu village. Learn how the influence of the 1st world is changing the lives of the clan. Cost to be advised. Lunch optional extra. Depart from Lake St Lucia Lodge.

 

Seasonal Whale Watching

From June to mid November. During the winter months whales from the Antarctic visit our shores to have their young in the warm waters off our coast. St Lucia has the highest boat-based whale sightings.

 

Snorkelling

Explore Cape Vidal, enjoy swimming and snorkelling in the bay and over the reef - then enjoy a sumptuous South African bush braai (barbeque)

 

Seasonal Turtle Tours

From November to March. During the summer months hundreds of Loggerhead and Giant Leatherback turtles return to the beaches to lay their eggs. This tour includes a night drive through The Eastern Shores onto Cape Vidal for a Beach drive. A walk on the Beach followed by some snacks & refreshments. The Tour is for 6 hours and departure times vary according to High & low tides.

 

Full Day Fishing

For a full day out on the Deep Sea and lots of fish to catch. Remember to bring your sunscreen, hat and lots of water to drink.

 

Crocodile Research Centre

St. Lucia has a very interesting crocodile center well worth a visit. 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Unless by prior arrangement, cottages are ready for occupation from 12 noon and to enable staff to prepare and air cottages for the next guests a friendly request to vacate your cottage by not later than 09h00am on the day of your departure.
